Internet Withdrawl - No Worries

Flying and have DTs because you can't access the net?

No worries.  Alaska Airlines just announced that it will outfit all its aircraft with Aircell's Gogo WiFi service.  Several other airlines, including AirTran also offer Gogo.

You'll have to pay a nominal fee for the service on Alaska Air based on the length of the flight and device you're using. But relax. You can connect and get your fix.

How Many Islands in Hong Kong?

I was reading USA Today's travel section online the other day, and discovered a story about online travel quizzes.  They apparently abound -- some are so easy as to be ridiculous, others are true hair-pullers that really test your brainpower.

The National Geographic Website offers dozens of travel related quizzes.  Do you know how many islands make up Hong Kong?   I've been there, and I didn't. But take the NG Quiz and find out. Check out  travel.nationalgeographic.com/travel (scroll down and click on "Quizzes"). Lots of other regional quizzes can be found there, too.

Or, check out Traveler IQ Challenge at travelpod.com/traverl-iq to see if you can locate quickly on a map landmarks like the Statue of the Redeemer in Brazil (I've been there, too, but am not so sure I'd pass this fast-pased test.) Cool thing about Traveler IQ Challenge is you can share your score with friends, compare it with others (or, like me, you might want to hide your score altogether and simply "forget" that you ever bothered to  participate.)

I knew about those quizzes, but learned about a few others in the USA Today story that I had not seen before.  When I'm a little more well rested (or maybe after I've had a few more glasses of wine), I'm going to check them out.

Anne Wallance Allen, in her AP story, said that other wonders of the world are covered by travel writer Howard Hillman's World Travel Quiz at bit.ly/aOTRmg.

GeoChallenge, a Playfish game also found on Facebook has its fast-clicking participants test their wits on a host of foreign trivia, such as flags: bit.ly/apgUU6. Very basic game-playing on GeoChallenge is free; more detailed games require a PayPal deposit. (Why would I want to pay money to learn how much I don't know?  Hmmmm???)

Or, if playing games in a virtual world is more your speed, check out a travel site called Wazzamba, where your avatar plays games that let you compete for real travel prizes: : bit.ly/chSmpJ.

So, if you're game -- a little test of the gray matter is in order.  I may beat you (but I'm too cowardly to post my scores, so I'll be gloating about my victories in private.)
