2010 Travel Quiz – Number 1

OK, my faithful followers….let’s jump ahead to destination 2010.
I propose that we do a little quiz.

Every few weeks from now through, let’s say, early summer (or sooner if I get antsy about it), I’m going to post a few quiz questions to give you a hint about our 25th anniversary travel destination this fall.

If you guess the destination first, you may be eligible to receive a fun and fabulous prize related to our trip. (How’s that for suspense…?) (Disclaimer: followers who already know the answer are ineligible!)

So, let’s get started, shall we? And do play along!

1. The country where we’ll be spending the bulk of our time is landlocked – 373 miles from the nearest ocean.

2. Wildlife and tourism employs about 45% of the residents of the northern part of the destination country.

Any ideas?

I've missed you

Hey fellow travel adventurers, I've missed you.  It's been a few weeks since I posted anything to the blog.  During that time I did a bit of traveling of a different sort.

I had a death in my family -- I lost my dear, sweet, Aunt Katie, my father's only sibling and traveled to Michigan to be with her family.

Deaths and funerals are so bittersweet.  You're saying goodbye to a cherished friend or loved one which is sad, but they also serve as family reunions.

I saw cousins who I haven't "seen" since I was an infant.  They shared stories and recollections with me of my mother and father (who passed away respectively when I was two and six years old, so my memories of them are few.)

We shared stories about my Aunt, who raised seven children and many of her grandchildren. She was one of the strongest women I ever knew, with a keen wit and incredible sense of humor.

She was a treasure to me in so many ways and I will miss her dearly.

So that catches you up on where I've been and what I've been up to.....and now we can get back to discussions of the kind of travel adventures that are much more entertaining and offer memories of an entirely different kind.
